What is the best Pokemon team in Red/Blue version?
My friend and I are playing the first versions of Pokemon (Red/Blue) for kicks and we want to get competitive with each other about it. Without using Legendary pokemon, what are the best pokemon to use to crush my rival? Right now this is what I am thinking:
Jolteon
Tentacruel/Starmie
Gengar
Dragonite
Tauros/Rhydon
Hypno
By "legendary," do you mean the three birds? I don't know what newer generations have taught you, but they're not overpowered. They may have high stats, but they lack versatility. Mewtwo and Mew, however, are another story...
There is no single best team. Every pokemon has unique advantages.
With your current idea, if you choose Rhydon you will be too weak to Ice (2 weak and only 1 resistant). If you choose Tentacruel, you will be too weak to Ground (1 immune but 3 weak). So, I would recommend going with Starmie and Tauros.
If you choose your moves wisely, you have the ability to hit the weakness of any pokemon, including psychics. Well done.
It looks like you're going for a sleep strategy (or maybe you just happen to have Gengar and Hypno for some other reason), but you only have two sleepers. In my experience, it takes 3 pokemon with sleep moves to have a successful sleep team. If you don't want to change one of your pokemon, though, I could see your team being pretty successful with poison too.
